Nominations are finally in—and guess who’s leading the pack? Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, Harry Styles, and Doja Cat!

In just a month from now, the winners of the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards will finally be revealed. As announced this Tuesday, July 26, Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, and Lil Nas X are leading the nominations with seven nods each. Following them with six nominations each are Doja Cat and Harry Styles, with Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Ed Sheeran each having five nominations for this year.

Both Lil Nas X and Harlow were nominated for their smash duet “Industry Baby” in five different categories. One of America’s most influential rappers, Kendrick Lamar, bagged not only one but two nominations for Best Cinematography for the music videos of his hit songs Family Ties and N95.

Interestingly, this year’s nominees are a great mix of veterans and up-and-comers. Madonna, Elton John, Daddy Yankee, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem were all nominated at least once, while this generation’s superstars, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, Future, Young Thug, Nicki Minaj, Bad Bunny, and Lizzo, got nominated for their grandiose imagery.

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards is set to give recognition to the biggest names in the music industry this coming August 28 at 8 pm ET/PT live from Prudential Center in New Jersey. It will be available for streaming across MTV’s linear and digital platforms, with a simulcast on The CW for the third consecutive year. The ceremony can also be watched via BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, and VH1.
